UNDERSTANDING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

What is domestic violence?

Domestic violence is a pattern of behavior used by one person to gain and maintain power and control over another in an intimate or family relationship. It can occur between spouses, partners, former partners, or family members, and it does not discriminate by age, gender, race, income, or background.

Domestic violence is not always physical. It can take many forms, often happening behind closed doors and escalating over time.
